Europa League: Man Utd’s 1-0 loss to Real Sociedad is attributed to Ronaldo.
Cristiano Ronaldo is to blame for Manchester United’s Thursday Europa League loss to Real Sociedad, according to Liverpool veteran Steve Nicol.
Erik ten Hag gave Ronaldo a rare start, but he put up a lackluster performance as Man United lost 1-0 at Old Trafford.
Speaking on ESPN FC, Nicol criticized the Portugal skipper for missing multiple opportunities during the team’s loss to Real Sociedad.
When you bring up the game, the one image that comes to mind, “I’ll be honest with you, is Ronaldo clean through [on goal] and getting caught by two players,” Nicol said to ESPN FC.
“That’s sort of what comes to mind. He did take another look, though.
He had additional opportunities, though they weren’t as excellent as that one, and something was still lacking.
“When I consider this game, I think about that. There weren’t many chances in the game, and there wasn’t much of a contest between the two sides.
However, that is the only thing I can come up with. The fact that Ronaldo was spotless throughout and appeared to be 36 to 37 years old.
